    THE Alliance formally adopts HMM as a new member and boosts ‘contingency fund’

    THE Alliance members have filed an amended version of their vessel-sharing agreement (VSA), to incorporate new member HMM, with the US Federal Maritime Commission (FMC), according to Alphaliner.  Read more here (login required).

    CMA CGM-Ikea trial shows bio-fuel can be a green solution for shipping

    CMA CGM and Swedish home furnishings giant Ikea have completed a trial shipment of goods using a vessel powered by bio-fuel.
    On a recent voyage between Asia and North Europe, the 16,000 teu CMA CGM Alexander van Humboldt was powered by heavy fuel oil-equivalent bio-fuel oil (BFO), which is claimed to be “virtually SOx-free and delivers 80-90% well-to-propeller CO2 reduction versus fossil equivalents”.     FIATA appoints new secretary general

    Freight forwarder group FIATA has appointed Stéphane Graber as its new director general.
    Graber will take up his new role in Geneva on October 1 and will head up FIATA’s push to more closely align itself with international governmental and non-governmental organisations linked to international trade and trade logistics. Read more here.

    Peter Levesque to become president at Ports America

    Ports America, the largest marine terminal operator and stevedore in North America, has appointed Peter Levesque as president. He will assume the new job in February 2020 and will report to Mark Montgomery, who will continue in the role of chief executive officer. Read more here.
