Astral flies into Yemen as blockade is lifted

Kenya-based Astral Aviation has operated a humanitarian flight from Nairobi to Sanaa in Yemen – the first aircraft to land at the airport after the Saudi led coalition lifted a three-week blockade. Read more here.

Airlines cancel Bali flights as Mt. Agung threatens to erupt

Airlines have cancelled all flights to and from the Indonesian island of Bali due to volcanic activity.
However, the threatened eruption of Mount Agung has so far had only a localised effect, with no sign yet of the wider disruption to global air travel on the scale of Eyjafjallajökull incident in Iceland in 2010. Read more here.

OOCL cancels Trans-Atlantic sailings over Christmas and New Year period

HONG Kong’s Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) has announced Trans-Atlantic sailing cancellations over the Christmas and New Year period.
OOCL said in a statement that the cancellations have been made “in response to the expected low demand during the upcoming Christmas and New Year period”. Read more here.

Rodolphe Saade formally succeeds his father as chairman of CMA CGM

The ascension of Rodolphe Saade (pictured above) to the CMA CGM throne was completed at the end of last week after the French shipping line confirmed that his father, and the group’s founder, Jacques Saade (pictured below), had relinquished the chairman’s role to his son.

The move will effectively end Jacques Saade’s role with the group on an executive level and he will now go by the largely ceremonial title of founder-chairman. [Excerpted from theloadstar.co.uk]

Zim’s record peak season volume lifts result in major turnaround in profit

ISRAEL’s Zim Integrated Shipping Services recorded an adjusted profit of US$36.2 million in the third quarter, taking the carrier to a $51.3 million nine-month profit, a significant turnaround from the $151 million loss in the same period of last year. Read more here.

B.C. Landslides Affect Rail Service with Delays Expected Post Resumption

CN has provided its customers with an update on the status of tracks affected by landslides in British Columbia. The Yale subdivision resumed service as of 00:30 PST on Friday, November 24. Earlier landslides continue to impact portions of the Ashcroft subdivision, and CN was detouring trains in the area to complete repairs and return to normal train operations. Customers were told to expect delays over 24 hours due to a traffic backlog in the Edmonton to Vancouver corridor. Service was to resume on the Squamish subdivision as of 22:00 PST on Nov. 24, with some delays to be expected following service resumption.

CN said it was actively monitoring the situation and would communicate updates as the situation evolved.
