    Around 70% Of Flights To Beijing Are Cancelled Amid Second Wave

    After months of only imported cases, China has seen a resurgence in locally-transmitted cases in the last week. The source of the new outbreak is reported to be a large wholesale market in Beijing, which has forced the city to impose lockdown measures. The country has reported 172 locally-transmitted cases in the last week, raising fears of a second wave in China. Read more here.


    US eases ban on Chinese carriers

    The US Department of Transportation (DOT) has backed down from an earlier ban on Chinese carriers, allowing them to fly up to four weekly flights between Mainland China and the US.

    The move comes after the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) eased international flight restrictions further on 8 June, allowing more carriers — including those from the US — to operate flights into the country.  Read more here.

    Maersk says its ‘resilient ocean business’ will keep it on an even keel in Q2

    Maersk this morning updated its forecast for the second quarter, which indicated that world container trade may not plumb the depths many had feared in the aftermath of the coronavirus pandemic.

    “With current trading, the market demand in the second quarter of 2020 is developing more favourably than originally expected, with volumes downfall for AP Møller-Maersk now anticipated to be in the range of -15% to -18% for Q2 20, compared with the initial guidance of -20% to -25%,” it said. Read more here.

    Volatile US-Mexico auto industry disrupts border trucking capacity

    As the coronavirus pandemic continues to hit auto supply chains hard, trucking capacity has been volatile at key ports of entry along the United States-Mexico border.
    In Laredo, Texas, outbound tender volume (OTVI.LRD) has fallen slightly over last week, while outbound tender rejections (OTRI.LRD) have spiked during the same time, setting upward pressure on rates, according to FreightWaves’ SONAR platform. Read more here.
