Airspace restrictions due to the war in Ukraine could further limit options for shippers looking to transport large cargo.
The United States joined the European Union and Canada in closing its airspace to aircraft from Russia on Wednesday. The Department of Transportation order suspends foreign air carriers based in Russia from operating scheduled passenger and all-cargo air services to and from the U.S. This includes services from Russia’s largest airline Aeroflot and all-cargo carrier AirBridgeCargo Airlines.  Read more here.

Cyber threat: possible spear phishing attack against Hapag-Lloyd

Our IT security team has found a copy of our website on the web today, which is very likely to be used for a spear phishing attack. This means that e-mails are used to redirect users to this site and when they log in with their personal access data, which are then tapped by criminals. This kind of fake websites are usually a one-to-one copy of the real pages and can therefore usually only be recognised as malicious pages via the domain or Internet address. Read more here.

US congressional committees question liner pricing

Two subcommittees of the US House of Representatives’ Committee on Oversight and Reform have sent letters to A.P. Moller Maersk, CMA CGM Group and Hapag-Lloyd “requesting information about dramatic increases in the prices for shipping containers and reports of exorbitant fees and surcharges,” according to a press release issued last week. CIFFA Sends Letter Regarding Prospect of Rail Service Interruption at CP Rail to Relevant Federal and Provincial Ministers

On Friday, CIFFA sent a letter – on behalf of the 20,000 employees working in Canada’s freight forwarding industry – to express alarm at the prospect of a rail service interruption at CP Rail, indicating that a significant disruption in rail services would be a catastrophic additional blow while supply chains remain severely impacted by Covid-19 and the resulting chaos in marine and tertiary transport.
