Customs officers at Liege Airport step up strikes as cargo backlogs growth

Talks are taking place today in a bid to end the long-running industrial action by 250 customs officers at Liège Airport (LGG), protesting at what they claim is a deterioration in their working conditions.
Warehouses at the Belgian gateway are reported to be overflowing with shipments as a result of work-to-rule strikes by customs officers which began almost a month ago. Read more here.

Due to adverse weather conditions forecast for today, the Port of Halifax has noted that its pilot and terminal operations may be affected.

The message from ocean carrier operations centres is to urgently evacuate as much equipment as possible from Europe and the U.S. back to Asia on the first available sailings.
Exporters from Europe and the U.S. have hitherto enjoyed an abundance of containers provided by carriers, as depots have for some time been brim-full of equipment of all types. Read more here.

California backs off drayage diesel ban — for now

The California Air Resources Board has notified the California Trucking Association that it “will not take enforcement action” banning new diesel trucks in drayage work, part of the state’s Advanced Clean Fleets (ACF) regulations, nor will it de-register model 2007-2009 natural gas drayage trucks as it had intended to. Supreme Court rejects review in broker liability case, leaving the issue unresolved

The Supreme Court has again rejected a review of the question of broker liability in a case involving the death or injury of a person struck by a truck that was booked by a 3PL.
However, unlike the case of Miller v. C.H. Robinson, this rejection is considered a victory for the brokerage industry.
