    Yang Ming & The Alliance launch fourth weekly service for Prince Rupert

    The Port of Prince Rupert, DP World Prince Rupert and CN have announced a new weekly marine carrier service at the Fairview Container Terminal. Yang Ming and its partners in THE Alliance, Hapag-Lloyd and Ocean Network Express, have added Prince Rupert as the first North American port of call on the amended PS8 trans-Pacific service this spring.  Read more here.

    San Francisco, CA — Amazon’s latest perk … free delivery to your car.
    The Seattle company on Tuesday began offering delivery in 37 cities to Amazon Prime members who own newer General Motors or Volvo vehicles. Read more here. 

    CN Rail’s new CEO speeds spending in rush to ease congestion

    The company is weighing the purchase of 500 “centerbeam” cars to accommodate rising lumber shipments and more than 500 hopper cars to renew the grain-hauling fleet starting next year, said interim Chief Executive Officer Jean-Jacques Ruest. Read more here.

    Freight Costs Weighing on Earnings at Consumer-Goods Makers

    High freight costs are weighing on earnings at big consumer-goods companies as they try to get products from soda and toys to deodorant and household chemicals to stores.
    Some companies and analysts expect the pressure on shipping, which began late last year, to extend into the spring, when the seasonal growth in volumes of produce, food and beverages could place additional strain on already-tight trucking capacity.  Read more here (login required).

    For Canadian ports on the Pacific Coast, spring did not come soon enough, though its arrival was certainly welcomed. A particularly harsh winter throughout Western Canada notably affected railway operations which in turn provoked serious congestion problems for shippers at the key British Columbia gateways of Vancouver and Prince Rupert already coping with growth management challenges.
