    Halifax Stanfield Celebrates Air Cargo Logistics Park Grand Opening

    The ribbon has been cut at the new Halifax Stanfield Air Cargo Logistics Park (ACLP), marking the official opening of Atlantic Canada’s largest air cargo processing facility.
    Today, Halifax International Airport Authority (HIAA) was joined by the Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada and Member of Parliament for Central Nova, the Honourable Steve Craig, Nova Scotia Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture and MLA for Sackville – Cobequid, Mike Savage, Mayor of Halifax Regional Municipality, air cargo tenants, cargo logistics chain partners, and other stakeholders to celebrate the grand opening of the park. Read more here.

     

    Cargo flowing more smoothly as ground handling disruption eases at Frankfurt

    Ramp and warehouse congestion has eased at Frankfurt Airport, Europe’s biggest hub for air cargo traffic, according to Lufthansa Cargo.
    “We continue to experience problems with ground handling at our Frankfurt hub from time to time – resulting in delays and some flight cancellations – but not to the same extent as at the beginning of July,” a spokesperson for the German carrier told The Loadstar. Read more here (login required).

     

    EU ends approval of cargo-in-the-cabin flights

    The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has ended its approval of cargo-in-the-cabin flights.
    Use of the passenger cabin for cargo, known as cargo-in-the-cabin flights, has been authorised since 2020, after the EASA issued approvals and exemptions for the transport of cargo in passenger cabins on a case-by-case basis. Read more here.

    Traffic Restrictions Cause Congestion Concerns for Carriers at Nhava Sheva

    Maersk Line has reported a slowdown in truck flows in/out of India’s Nhava Sheva Port/JNPT as a result of new traffic restrictions imposed by local authorities.
    “Traffic Police have issued a notice on movements of heavy vehicles from Nhava Sheva CFS [container freight station]/yard,” the carrier said in a customer advisory. “Heavy vehicle movement from JNPT area is, therefore, leading to traffic congestion. All these restrictions are beyond our control and this may lead to delays.” Read more here.

    Non-traditional employers competing for drivers

    As traditional carriers compete to attract drivers to their fleets, there are plenty of non-traditional employers that are also looking for candidates with A/Z and D/Z licences to join their businesses.
    John Faustino, fleet driver trainer for the City of Markham, said the challenge is to hire people qualified to operate commercial vehicles, even if their primary function is not operating commercial vehicles. Read more here.
