    AIR FREIGHT UPDATES


    YVR limits international arrivals to address delays, cancellations brought by winter storm

    A limited number of international flights will be arriving in Vancouver over the next two days, as the city’s airport works to recover from a major winter storm that halted operations Tuesday.
    Approximately 30 arriving international flights with 17 airlines will be impacted, according to an update on the Vancouver International Airport’s website late Tuesday night. Read more here.

    Quebec ELD enforcement likely in March

    As most of Canada begins enforcing the federal electronic logging device (ELD) mandate on Jan. 1, 2023, Quebec will be the only province not applying the rules.
    Marc Cadieux, president and CEO, of the province’s trucking association – Association du Camionnage du Quebec (ACQ), predicts enforcement will begin in March “in the worst-case scenario”. Read more here.

     

    Trucking conditions crashed to pandemic lows this fall

    Troy Hawkins, a longtime trucking owner-operator, enjoyed a take-home pay of around $70,000 in 2021. But, this year, he estimates his income has sunk to about $45,000 or $50,000.

    UK forwarders warned of disruption due to Border Force strikes

    Border Force officers working at a range of airports in the UK will launch eight days of industrial action over the Christmas period that could lead to shipment delays.
    Members of the Public and Commercial Services Union at London Heathrow, London Gatwick, Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff and Glasgow airports will begin their strike action on December 23-26 and December 28-31. Read more here.

    New York governor signs warehouse worker protection bill into law

    New York Gov. Kathy Hochul on Tuesday signed legislation that proponents say will improve safety and accountability within warehouses in the state.
    Modeled after a similar measure in California, the Warehouse Worker Protection Act (S. 8922/A. 10020) “will protect warehouse distribution workers from undisclosed or unlawful work speed quotas, and includes protections for workers who fail to meet unlawful quotas,” according to a press release from the governor’s office. Read more here.
