IATA: International Air Traffic Grew by Over 150% In 2022

On February 6th, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) released its analysis of air traffic throughout 2022. IATA announced that total air traffic continued to grow throughout the year and continued its growth in December 2022. Air traffic is measured in revenue passenger kilometers (RPKs). Read more here.

UK Airport Border Staff Will Strike Again On March 15th

Airport border staff in the UK are set to strike again after their much-publicized walkout over the Christmas holidays. UK Border Force officials will walk out on March 15th as part of wider industrial action called for by the Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS). Read more here.

Shenzhen Airport backs cargo as international volumes soar

Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport (SZX) is investing in cargo terminals and faster handling of e-commerce goods to supercharge international volumes as China’s vast airfreight market reopens for business.
The third largest cargo airport on the Chinese mainland – and the biggest in terms of domestic cargo volumes – plus a logistics hub for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, SZX handled 776,000 tons of international airfreight in 2022, a nearly 20% increase for the third year running. Maersk: Container shipping contract rates will sink to spot levels

The return to ’supply chain normalisation’ has led to the container liner industry being hobbled by an estimated surplus of 5m teu of boxes, piled high on storage quays and in depots around the world.
Weak consumer demand and consequent easing of supply chain congestion has resulted in an expensive post-boom hangover for ocean carriers, as their equipment storage costs soar at the same time as their freight revenues plummet. Read more here (login required).

CP Update: Service Interruption – Mountain Subdivision

CP teams continue repair work in the MacDonald tunnel, with a track outage affecting operations between Revelstoke and Golden, B.C. Completion of the work is expected late Wednesday evening.
CP has a route around the site that uses the Connaught tunnel. Customers who route traffic in this lane can expect delays at this time.

CN Customer News: Train Length Restrictions Lifted
