    IATA: Slowdown in airfreight demand accelerated in August

    The International Air Transport Association said Wednesday that overall global demand for airfreight declined at a faster rate in August than July, contracting 3.9% compared to 2.4% the month before. And international airfreight volume fell 4.6% year-over-year versus the 3.3% decline in the previous month. Read more here

    American Airlines to resume Boeing 737 MAX service in January

    American Airlines [NYSE: AAL]said it expects to begin phasing in the Boeing 737 MAX into service by mid-January, nearly nine months after aviation authorities grounded the plane for safety reasons. Read more here.

    Panama Canal use by box ships slows only slightly, but there’s worse to come

    The number of containerships transiting the Panama Canal during its fiscal year ending 30 September declined slightly, by 1.1% to 2,575.
    But there could be further reductions after ocean carriers announced a number of blanked sailings in the coming weeks on their Asia to US east coast all-water schedules ahead of the slack season. Read more here.

    Super Typhoon Hagibis still eyeing Japan this weekend

    Super Typhoon Hagibis – with winds cranking back up to 160 mph – is still trudging northward across the western Pacific Ocean toward Japan. It will lose some steam by the weekend, but could still remain a threat to supply chains, lives and properties. Read more here.
