IndiGo receives first freighter

Indian airline IndiGo has taken delivery of its first freighter to build its “CarGo” business.
The Airbus A321 passenger to freighter (P2F) aircraft has been leased by IndiGo from funds serviced by Castlelake Aviation Holdings (Ireland) Limited.
The narrowbody aircraft will be used for both domestic and international flights, transporting products such as valuables, express shipments, perishables, general cargo and documents. Read more here.

Forwarders are ‘essential’ to our business, claims CMA CGM Air Cargo

CMA CGM Air Cargo has moved to quell the fears of forwarders by insisting they “are essential” to its business.
CMA CGM also owns Ceva Logistics, leading to concerns that the carrier is ‘Ceva’s airline’ and last year there were fears the shipping line may follow the example of Maersk and cut capacity to forwarders. Read more here (login required).

Union Plans Broader Second Strike at Liverpool Rejecting Wage Offer

Union officials are planning to increase the pressure on the UK ports announcing plans for a second strike at the port of Liverpool that will encompass more of the employees of Peel Ports operators of the container port. Today’s announcement for a second strike a Liverpool comes five days before the first strike is due to end and according to analysts the timing is designed to increase the disruptions to the UK’s supply chain. Read more here.  

Fewer orders ‘bodes poorly’ for China’s exports as Golden Week looms

China’s manufacturing sector contracted again this month, with new export orders at their “lowest since May.”
According to the Caixin China General Manufacturing Purchase Managers’ Index (PMI), September’s factory output and demand was “dampened” by Covid containment measures. Read more here (login required).

US West Coast port labour talks disrupted by Seattle dispute

A conflict involving Seattle’s largest port terminal endangers contract negotiations between US West Coast Terminals and a labour union.
Pacific Maritime Association (PMA), representing terminal operators on the US West Coast, had been in talks with The International Longshoremen and Warehouse Union (ILWU) for four months now. Accusations are being thrown left and right between the two parties about who should be assigned jobs and worker productivity. Read more here.
