    Volumes flatline at Europe’s major air cargo hubs

    The stagnant air cargo market continues to be reflected in the latest traffic figures released by two of Europe’s leading hubs.
    At Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS), cargo throughput totaled 10,344 tonnes last month, down 5.6% on August 2022. Read more here (login required).

    Engine trouble hits freighter conversions – but a plus for aerospace

    Hundreds of A320neo aircraft will be grounded for extended periods of time over the coming three years owing to inspection and repair work on their jet engines. This will culminate in about 650 aircraft parked early next year. Read more here (login required).

    THE Alliance suspends transpacific service, but more capacity cuts needed

    THE Alliance is suspending a transpacific loop in a move suggesting that carriers are now prepared to take more radical action on capacity management in order to balance supply with falling demand.
    THEA members Hapag-Lloyd, ONE, Yang Ming and HMM advised today that they are suspending their PN3 loop from Asia to the North American west coast, “until further notice”, effective the first week in October, “in consideration of the present market situation”. Read more here 

    Chittagong becomes congestion-free following volume drops

    Out of 10 designated jetties for handling container vessels at Chittagong port, two remained vacant on Tuesday, while between one and three jetties have been empty for almost every day this month as lower number of vessels arrived due to a significant fall in import volumes.
    Normally Bangladesh’s primary port faces container stockpiles in its yards and prolonged vessel congestion at the outer anchorage of the port. Read more here (login required).

    Unifor extends Ford negotiations for 24 hours after receiving ‘substantive offer’

    TORONTO – Unifor and Ford Motor Co. are continuing to negotiate after the union extended a strike deadline by 24 hours.
    The union pushed back the deadline that had been set to expire late Monday night after it says it received a “substantive offer” from Ford. Read more here

    New UK trade rules come thick and fast

    UK forwarders’ body the British International Freight Association (BIFA) is predicting “a very hectic start” to 2024 for its members.
    It follows the Government’s publication on 29 August of the Border Target Operating Model (BTOM), which sets out the country’s new import security and biosecurity import controls, following the country’s withdrawal from the European Union. Read more here
