IATA calls for action in Indian aviation

IATA director general and chief executive Alexandre de Juniac has highlighted several areas that could maximise the potential contribution of India’s aviation industry to the country’s development.

Speaking at the International Aviation Summit in Delhi, co-hosted by the Indian Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA), Airports Authority India (AAI) and IATA, de Juniac said: “We must address infrastructure constraints that limit growth and government policies that deviate from global standards and drive up the cost of connectivity.” Read more here.

Delta Cargo kiosks a digital step forward

Delta Cargo has introduced self-service iPad kiosks at its stations in Atlanta and Boston, and is currently testing the technology in other airport hubs that require electronic air waybills (e-AWB) as standard operating procedure. Read more here.

Air freight prices up 12%, year on year

Average global air freight prices remain up 12%, year on year, in US dollar terms, despite a slowing of growth in the last few months and a month-on-month drop in freight rates in July, according to analyst WorldACD. Read more here.

Transpacific contract rates set for boost

Shippers on transpacific routes could see contract rates at container lines rise by as much as 40% if the historic link between spot and contract rates is re-established.

European road haulage capacity at ‘historically low’ level

Available transport capacity is fluctuating around a historically low level, pushing European road freight rates upwards, while hikes in fuel prices and driver shortages are also driving hauliers’ operating costs higher, according to the latest quarterly Transport Market Monitor (TMM) published by technology and consulting group Capgemini and cloud-based logistics software provider Transporeon, which tracks transport market dynamics.
